Slow fashion October
My heart nearly stopped when I first laid eyes on this beautiful scene of Katrien taking in the morning sunrise outside her home.. What a beautiful soul and pioneer of slow living, giving us precious glimpses of her idyllic family life in the Italian hills @growingwildthings

"Today started with the most incredible morning mist as the heavy sea of clouds that gather in the valley at night made it's way up towards the october sun... And so I put on my favourite dress, and asked Francesco to snap some pictures of me. Just me. No props. No babies... And as usual I found that quite hard... I'm never really at ease in front of the camera. And so there's a bunch of pictures of me, trying my very best to look glamourous, but in the end it was this one that Francesco took when I thought we were already 'done' that I ended up liking best... • Anyway, I really wanted to come here today because I wanted to tell you about how October is SLOW FASHION month; a month to celebrate all the brave men and women that choose to go against the tidal wave of the fast fashion industry by designing and creating garments in conditions that are safe, sustainable and free of exploitation; men and women that try to make a living for themselves and their families by following their dreams... and that by doing so, often create job opportunities for other people as well... even if it isn't always easy to bring a slow product in an ever faster world... • And as a way to give voice to these amazing initiatives, I have teamed up with my sweet friend Nadia, who is the talented designer behind one of my favourite slow fashion brands @nadinooclothing. One of the great pleasures of designing clothing is seeing them worn by talented ladies across the globe. I never tire of seeing how each woman wears her Nadinoo garment and styles it in a new and inspiring way. Tina Sosna an enchanting illustrator and photographer from Turingia, Germany certainly qualifies for all the above. Not only does she have her own online stationary shop titled Lovely Envelopes with beautifully illustrated notebooks, envelopes, stickers and much more, but she also takes mood evoking photography and stunning short films shared though her Instagram feed and on her blog.
I couldn't wait to share this autumnal shoot of her picking fruit and berries in the woods, all of course while wearing her Ecru Goodlife pinafore. Delighted to announce we have this popular style re-socked and ready for you to pop in your basket. A shame we can't offer you a basket as cute as Tina's..

The goodlife dress travels
"Each wearer has shared what ‘the good life’ means to them and these pictures pretty much capture my happy place, my good life. At home surrounded by all things living and green – with the husband and cats of course! Grubby hands, thriving pot plants, forlorn succulents, healthy herbs and a few hours slowing down to take care of my green friends. I know I share it often here, but I never knew how much looking after plants would make me happy. I am chomping at the bit waiting for better weather that will let me outside."
"Not just props, as someone suggested, I do actually read my observer books, they come in so handy for reference and to identify native wild flowers, cacti, garden shrubs and ships, (well maybe that one is just a prop). Now I have had to post the dress on to the next person, what will I do without the pockets to carry around all my little books of knowledge and my secateurs while I am gardening? Running our own business has been the ultimate realisation for us living the good life. We work longer hours than ever, but on our own terms. Being my own boss has meant I can work when the daylight has gone and indulge my budding inner gardener at 11 am on a Tuesday morning – (once all our parcels have been sent) if I want to. We all know you have to grab and make the most of all daylight hours while you can, here in the winter."

Change in direction
I'm not sure of the exact point where fashion left me behind..
perhaps it decide to move on when I was exploring life in
South Africa or while I was busy raising my little girl. But I no longer walk into stores and feel that excitement about clothing that I once felt. I'm certain they did not have me in mind when choosing their design direction for the seasons. Either way I'm happy fashion chose not to include me in it's plans as I now feel a greater need to find that spark that
got me excited about clothing in the very beginning. I don't think I
have ever struggled for inspiration in the past, normally I'd
have an over spill of ideas that left me eager to get designing the next
collection, but I feel like I've been dragging my heals somewhat
with this one. And I know you have taken note..
The truth is I can't
design something that I would not wear today and as my day to day
needs for clothing have changed, so have my ideas of what makes a great
design. Clothing now needs to fit in with my everyday life as a working
mother and all the glamorous demands that brings.. Although comfort,
smart and simple are high on my wish list I'm certainly not ready to
slip away from the fun side of fashion all together. I still lust after bold prints,
vibrant colours, quality fabrications and originality in design and see
no reason why all these can not come together to create an
exciting alternative to what is available. So with all this in mind I
have found some fresh enthusiasm and a new design direction for Nadinoo
that I hope you will love.
INTRODUCING THE DESIGNERS SMOCK
This style was one of the first pieces I designed for the new Nadinoo 2015 offering and ticks all the boxes for me in terms of function, style and comfort. I feel I could wear this design in almost any print and fabrication everyday of the week. I
can see other creatives throwing on this loose number before heading
out to their design studios ready to roll up their sleeves and get thoroughly inspired for the day ahead.
